FRIENDS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATES A MAMMOTH FRIENDSHIP 1982-2012
In conjunction with the feature exhibition Wolf to Woof: The Story of Dogs, the Royal Alberta Museum and the Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) held a Best Buddy Contest. Thirty paws-itively wonderful dogs and their stories, selected by FRAMS volunteer judges from 255 entries, were honoured on June 8, 2012, prior to the opening of the exhibition.
EDMONTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SUPPORTS TOTEM POLE RESTORATION
FRAMS received funding in July 2011 from the Community Grants Program of the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to help restore the Sunwapta totem pole to the condition that is most familiar as a landmark object for Albertans. Thanks goes to the ECF, as well as a group of 108 former and current CFRN/CTV Edmonton employees who raised funds to acquire the iconic totem pole and donate it to the Royal Alberta Museum in October 2010. From July 7 to October 2, 2011, visitors to the museum lobby witnessed the detailed work involved in treatment conservation first-hand.
TELUS EDMONTON COMMUNITY BOARD SUPPORTS THE 2011GO! PROGRAM
The Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) extends sincere thanks to the TELUS Edmonton Community Board and Chair Dr. Robert Westbury for the generous donation of $6,000 in support of the FRAMS GO! Program. FRAMS provides 4,000 GO! Program passes to financially challenged families associated with 27 Greater Edmonton social service agencies so that they too can experience all that the Royal Alberta Museum has to offer.
2011 MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN - THANKS TO OUR ANONYMOUS DONOR!
To help FRAMS reach its annual fund goal, the first-ever Matching Gift Campaign generated $10,476 over the first three months of 2011. An anonymous FRAMS donor pledged funds up to $5,000 to assist in leveraging matching support from the community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this campaign.
INSIDE INFO: TALK AND TOUR SERIES
In February 2009, the FRAMS Membership Committee introduced a new curator-led tour series designed especially for Friends' members and their guests. On December 3, 2007, Minister of Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture, Hector Goudreau and Dr. Bruce McGillivray accept a $32,200 cheque presented by Godfrey Huybregts, on behalf of the Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society, in support of Museum School.
